Certificate & Appraisal

When buying antique jewelry, trust is paramount. A historical piece of jewelry is not an industrially manufactured mass-produced item, but an original with history, material value, craftsmanship, and individual character.

That's why jewelry at Saskia Seewald Antikschmuck is expertly examined, carefully described, and assessed for authenticity, condition, workmanship, and special features. Saskia Seewald is a gemologist and expert for antique jewelry, gemstones, pearls, diamonds, and mounted jewelry.

Certificate with the purchase of a piece of jewelry

For each piece of jewelry offered, you will receive a certificate with the essential details about the item. This certificate serves as transparent documentation and provides you with additional security during your purchase.

Depending on the piece of jewelry, it may include information such as material, gemstones, diamonds, pearls, epoch, craftsmanship, and special features. The specific individual piece is always decisive, as every antique piece of jewelry is unique.

If you have any questions about a particular piece of jewelry or the information in the certificate, we will be happy to advise you personally.

Expertly verified antique jewelry

Antique jewelry requires experience, a trained eye, and the correct professional classification. When examining a piece of jewelry, it's not just about whether gold, platinum, diamonds, gemstones, or pearls are present. What's crucial is the interplay of material, craftsmanship, setting, condition, era, and originality.

Every piece of jewelry is carefully examined and tested before being offered. Gemological knowledge, experience with historical jewelry, and an eye for craftsmanship play an important role in this process.

This results in a selection of tested unique pieces that are not random but thoughtfully curated: originals instead of replicas, antique jewelry instead of mass-produced goods.

Expert appraisals for jewelry, jewels, pearls, and gold and silver articles

In addition to selling certified antique jewelry, Saskia Seewald Antikschmuck also offers appraisal services. These services are available for jewelry, jewels, pearls, as well as gold and silver items.

An appraisal can be useful if you want to have the value of a piece of jewelry estimated, need documentation for insurance purposes, or wish to have jewelry expertly valued as part of an estate, inheritance, or division of assets.

Expert assessment can also be helpful for unique individual pieces, antique jewelry, diamond jewelry, pearl jewelry, or set gemstones.

For what occasions an expert opinion can be useful

A jewelry appraisal can be important in various situations. Frequently, it involves valuations, insurance cases, court appraisals, division of inheritances, or estate evaluations.

Especially with older pieces of jewelry, an expert assessment is useful because the material, craftsmanship, condition, origin, era, and gemstone setting are often not immediately clear at first glance.

An appraisal provides guidance and verifiably documents the essential characteristics of the piece of jewelry.

Expert Opinion Process

The appraisal process begins with a personal appointment. After a telephone consultation, the jewellery pieces are inspected, and a concrete cost estimate is prepared.

The commission is confirmed after photographic documentation and a written handover confirmation. The appraisal is then prepared.

The collection of the appraisal is also confirmed in writing. Payment can be made in cash, by EC card, or by credit card.

Costs and duration

The cost of an appraisal depends on the individual effort required and the piece of jewelry to be appraised. As a general rule, the fee is approximately five percent of the appraised value. A specific quote will be provided after the jewelry has been presented.

The duration for completing the appraisal is individually agreed upon. On average, it takes about three weeks.
